The New Mexico Medical Review Association (NMMRA) is working with the state’s three PBS stations and will approach Univision to secure airtime and produce local programming related to Remaking American Medicine (RAM). In addition, NMMRA will work to secure earned media attention around the local and national programming.
To assist in these efforts, NMMRA has involved members of the New Mexico Health Care Takes on Diabetes (NMHCTOD) coalition, comprised of 22 health care organizations focusing on reducing the negative effects of diabetes among New Mexicans, as members of a state RAM coalition as well as other partners and stakeholders that are involved in NMMRA’s quality improvement efforts. New Mexico’s RAM coalition is seeking ways to create a unique and relevant way to tie the national series into what the QIO and other health care providers are doing to help meet the state's unique challenges related to the health care needs of Medicare beneficiaries.
Coalition goals are to:
NMMRA is recruiting targeted health care partners and stakeholders to develop a functional and productive coalition in the state whose impact will be sustained beyond the RAM series. NMMRA is partnering with PBS stations KNME-TV in Albuquerque, KRWG-TV in Las Cruces; and KENW-TV in Portales and with local National Public Radio (NPR) stations, to promote the quality improvement work of the coalition and the RAM series.
The coalition is considering posting an assessment tool on the local PBS station Web site and promoting the site to gain community feedback about current health care perceptions, concerns, issues and to help prepare local programming ideas and to lead future coalition discussion. This will be a discussion item at the next coalition meeting scheduled for April 6.
