Idaho , Oregon and Washington

Collaborative Efforts Result in Decreased Surgical Infections

Between May 2003 and May 2004, participating hospital teams from Idaho , Oregon and Washington implemented, tested and tracked changes in surgical antibiotic administration for patients undergoing joint replacements and hysterectomies as part of the Surgical Infection Prevention Collaborative Northwest. The result: improved care that can save lives.

The teams made significant progress, including:


The Collaborative was led by Qualis Health, the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for Washington , Alaska and Idaho , and OMPRO, the Oregon Medicare QIO, under contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
